ALBEMARLE GARDEN CLUB'S CIVIC PROJECTS WITH A FOCUS ON PARKS
The Bog Garden
The funds raised from Olmsted Forum will go to Albemarle Garden Club’s civic projects initiatives with a focus on our work at the Booker T. Washington Park in Charlottesville, Virginia. This park has a rich and important history in our community and AGC has become a recent part of that. With the support of multiple Garden Club of America grants through the Partners for Plants Program and a 2014 Bessie Bocock Carter Conservation Award from the Garden Club of Virginia, AGC has been able to continue to expand our footprint at the park and to engage the community through outreach such as the school curriculum and planned family days in the park. AGC's work in the Booker T. Washington Park is an example of the GCA's initiative PARKS: Where Nature Meets Community. The GCA is a proud founding partner of the Olmsted200 bicentennial. GCA clubs across the country will commemorate Olmsted's birthday with a focus on the importance of parks and open spaces in our communities.
